Despite modest ratings in South Korea, it garnered a significant international fanbase, especially elevating Ji Chang-wook's popularity.
In the plot, a group of friends from 1992, involved in an illegal pro-democracy broadcasting station during South Korea's Fifth Republic, sets the stage. Three characters from diverse backgrounds are brought together:
Seo Jung-hoo / Park Bong-soo / Healer (Ji Chang-wook):
- A skilled "night courier" known as Healer.
- Recognized for advanced technology, hacking skills, and superb combat abilities.
- Aiming to save money for a secluded island, his life takes a turn when tasked to protect Chae Young-shin, leading to a blossoming love.
Chae Young-shin / Oh Ji-an (Park Min-young):
- A determined internet news reporter with dreams of legendary reporting.
- Discovers her past as Oh Ji-an, facing challenges and trauma.
- Struggles with panic attacks due to an abusive history.
- Finds love in Jung-hoo, her protector.
Kim Moon-ho (Yoo Ji-tae):- A renowned reporter and sibling to Kim Moon-sik, a news company CEO.
- On a quest to find the supposedly deceased Oh Ji-an, suspecting she's alive.
- Employs Healer to safeguard Ji-an (now Young-shin), motivated by guilt over a tragic 1992 incident.
The trio collaborates to uncover the truth behind the 1992 incident and present-day mysteries. As they navigate investigations, they transform into honest reporters challenging the boundary between truth and reality, confronting influential media figures.
Despite its modest domestic reception, "Healer" gained international acclaim, particularly for Ji Chang-wook's performance, expanding his fame beyond the borders of South Korea.
