The Korean drama "The Worst Of Evil" (최악의 악) is directed by Han Dong-Wook of "Non-Standard Lovers" and written by Jang Min-Suk. Starring Ji Chang-Wook, Wi Ha-Joon from "Squid Game," and Lim Se-Mi, the series is exclusively available on Disney+, premiering on September 27 with the release of the first three episodes, followed by two new episodes every week.
Set in Seoul in the '90s, the narrative follows a former DJ who controls a gang, dealing a new drug called "Gangnam Crystal" in the city's nightclubs. Rural police officer Park Joon-Mo (played by Ji Chang-Wook) is recruited as an undercover agent to infiltrate an international drug trafficking organization. The mission aims to become the core of the group, dismantle the forces led by gang leader Jung Ki-Cheol (Wi Ha-Joon), and uncover the drug's source.
Throughout the mission, Park Joon-Mo must keep it a secret from everyone. However, he unexpectedly discovers that his wife, Yoo Ui-Jung (Lim Se-Mi), also a police officer, is voluntarily involved in the same mission with a mysterious past tied to the evil forces. This revelation puts Joon-Mo in a dilemma, torn between committing fully to his job and ensuring his wife's safety.
The cast includes Ji Chang-Wook, Wi Ha-Joon, Lim Se-Mi, BIBI, Han Sung-Yong, Im Sung-Jae, Kim Kwang-San, Yun Kyung-Ho, Jung Man-Sik, Oh Seo-Jung, Cha Rae-Hyung, Ji Sung-Hyun, Lee Jung-Hun, and Woo Kang-Min.
As the series progresses to episodes 4-5, the narrative explores Joon-Mo's hesitations and introduces Brother Xu as a key character. The dynamics between characters, particularly Joon-Mo and Brother Xu, draw comparisons to characters from "Infernal Affairs." Koike's acting skills are praised in episodes 4-5, highlighting emotional scenes and the challenges faced by his character.
The overall assessment is positive, noting that the drama is better than a concurrent series, "Han River Cops." The review recommends the series for those interested in police, gangster, and undercover stories, anticipating future developments in the remaining episodes.
