"Knight Flower" (Korean: 밤에 피는 꽃) is an upcoming South Korean television series set to premiere on January 12, 2024, and will air on MBC TV every Friday and Saturday at 21:50 (KST). The series, based on a webtoon launched through KakaoPage on August 14, 2023, features a stellar cast including Lee Hanee, Lee Jong-won, Kim Sang-joong, and Lee Ki-woo.
The story revolves around Jo Yeo-hwa, a widow and daughter-in-law of the prestigious noble family in Joseon. During the day, she lives a quiet life, but at night, she secretly helps people in need. Lee Hanee portrays Jo Yeo-hwa, who has been a widow for fifteen years and leads a double life. Other main cast members include Lee Jong-won as Park Soo-ho, an intelligent military officer with excellent martial arts skills; Kim Sang-joong as Seok Ji-sung, Yeo-hwa's father-in-law and the left state councillor; and Lee Ki-woo as Park Yoon-hak, Soo-ho's older brother, a third-rank royal secretary, and one of the king's trusted men.
Supporting characters include Yeo-hwa's friend Yeon-sun (Park Se-hyun), Jang So-woon (Yoon Sa-bong), the current owner of the 200-year-old Hwayeonsangdan, and Hwal-yu (Lee Woo-je), So-woon's secretary. Additionally, the series introduces characters from Yeo-hwa's in-laws, such as Yoo Geum-ok (Kim Mi-kyung), Yeo-hwa's mother-in-law, Seok Jae-i (Jung So-ri), Ji-sung's youngest daughter and Yeo-hwa's sister-in-law, and Bong Mal-daek (Nam Mi-jeong), Ji-sung's family's long-time servant.
People around Soo-ho include Bi-chan (Jung Yong-joo), self-proclaimed right-hand man of Soo-ho, Hwang Chi-dal (Kim Kwang-kyu), a second-rank military officer and Soo-ho's superior, and Hwang Yi-kyung (Oh Ye-joo), Chi-dal's youngest daughter. Characters surrounding Ji-sung include Yi So (Heo Jung-do), the king of Joseon, Oh Nan-kyung (Seo Yi-sook), Heung-jib's wife, Kang Pil-jik (Jo Jae-yoon), a person involved in corruption, and Man-sik (Woo Kang-min), Pil-jik's subordinate. Yeom Heung-jib (Kim Hyung-mook) is portrayed as the minister of taxation.
The series was produced in Cheongsong County, with the main filming location being the Songso Historic House, a national folklore cultural heritage and a top tourist destination in the county. Filming concluded by August 2023.
Originally scheduled for release in the second half of 2023, "Knight Flower" was pushed back to January 2024. It was officially announced to premiere on January 12, 2024, marking the return of Lee Hanee to the small screen after a break to start a family. The series promises a mix of suspense, comedy, and action in a historical setting.
