Seoul Busters (Korean: 강매강) is an upcoming South Korean television series set to premiere on Disney+ on September 11, 2024. The show, co-written by Lee Young-chul and Lee Gwang-jae, and co-directed by Ahn Jong-yeon and Shin Joong-hoon, is expected to offer a blend of crime drama and comedy.
Synopsis
The series centers on the nation's lowest-ranked Violent Crime Team at Songwon Police Station, known for their lackluster performance in terms of arrests. The story follows the new leader of this underperforming team and explores their journey to becoming the best in the country. The series highlights the clash between the elite Violent Crime Team leader and the struggling squad, focusing on their efforts to improve and achieve excellence.

Main Cast:
Kim Dong-wook as Dongbang Yu-bin: The newly appointed leader of Violent Crime Team 2 at Songwon Police Station. Known for his exceptional intellect, good looks, and athletic prowess, Dongbang Yu-bin faces the challenge of leading a team with a poor track record. His unpredictable nature and sense of humor add complexity to his character.
Park Ji-hwan as Mu Jung-ryeok: A seasoned detective and former national boxing team member. Mu Jung-ryeok is known for his sharp wit and bandit-like appearance, combined with an undeniable charm.
Seo Hyun-woo as Jeong Jeong-hwan: A lifestyle detective with a background in national shooting. Jeong Jeong-hwan is dedicated to his job and his family, driven by a desire for promotion to support his wife and four children. His expertise in various skills adds depth to his role.
Park Se-wan as Seo Min-seo: The only female detective in the team, Seo Min-seo is known for her straightforward personality and strong inner self. Despite her polished appearance, she stands out as a crucial and reliable member of the team.
Lee Seung-woo as Jang Tan-sik: The youngest member of the team, Jang Tan-sik is characterized by his enthusiastic but error-prone nature. His enthusiasm and unique skills in ice-buying make him a memorable character.
Supporting Cast:
Son Eun-seo as Jang Eun-kyeong: Head of the forensic team at the National Forensic Science Laboratory. Originally a pediatrician, Jang Eun-kyeong turned to forensic medicine after a tragic incident involving a young patient.
Choi Kwang-il as Chief of Police: A supporting role that adds further depth to the police department's structure and dynamics.
Production
Development: The series was initially developed under the working title "Not Powerful but Attractive Violent Crime Unit" and is the result of a collaboration between Lee Young-chul and Lee Gwang-jae, known for their work on popular series such as MBC's High Kick! series and tvN's Potato Star 2013QR3. The production is managed by BA Entertainment, Chorokbaem Media, and Studio S.
Casting: Kim Dong-wook, Park Ji-hwan, Seo Hyun-woo, and Park Se-wan were cast in leading roles, with Lee Seung-woo joining them in a prominent role. Casting announcements were made between late 2023 and early 2024.
Filming: Principal photography began in late October 2023, setting the stage for the series’ release.
Release: The series was initially slated for SBS' Friday–Saturday lineup but faced programming changes. Disney+ confirmed the release of Seoul Busters on September 11, 2024, marking its debut as a Disney+ original.
Notes: The term "홍일점" (hongiljeom) refers to Seo Min-seo's role as the only woman among the team of men, highlighting her unique position and contribution within the group.
