Heartstrings (Korean: 넌 내게 반했어; RR: Neon Naege Banhaesseo; translated: "You've Fallen for Me") is a 2011 South Korean drama starring Park Shin-hye and Jung Yong-hwa. It aired on MBC from June 29 to August 19, 2011, broadcasting on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:55 PM (KST) for a total of 15 episodes.
This melodrama revolves around themes of love, friendship, and pursuing dreams, all set within the vibrant atmosphere of a performing arts college. The series reunited Jung Yong-hwa and Park Shin-hye, who had previously worked together in the 2009 series You're Beautiful.
Plot Summary: The story kicks off with Lee Shin (played by Jung Yong-hwa), the arrogant leader of a rock band called "The Stupid," and Lee Gyu-won (Park Shin-hye), a college student majoring in Traditional Korean Music, clashing from the moment they meet. Gyu-won initially doesn't see the appeal of Lee Shin until she attends one of his band's concerts. There, she becomes entranced by his musical talent.
Determined to be part of a significant university performance celebrating its 100th anniversary, Gyu-won joins the performance group. Her talent quickly catches the attention of Kim Suk-hyun (Song Chang-eui), a Broadway composer turned music director. However, she finds herself competing with the entitled Han Hee-joo (Kim Yoon-hye), the daughter of the university chairman, for the lead role. Despite her skills, Gyu-won loses out due to Hee-joo's underhanded tactics. Lee Shin also decides to participate in the musical, driven by his infatuation with the dance professor and choreographer, Jung Yoon-soo (So Yi-hyun).
As Gyu-won and Lee Shin work together, their rivalry slowly turns into romance. However, their relationship faces numerous obstacles, especially when Hee-joo’s mother conspires to ruin Gyu-won’s reputation in an attempt to push her out of the production. Meanwhile, Joon-hee (Kang Min-hyuk) struggles with his feelings for Hee-joo while trying to support his friends against the forces threatening their university life.
When Hee-joo is diagnosed with a vocal cord issue, Gyu-won is given the opportunity to take her place on stage. However, Gyu-won selflessly allows Hee-joo to perform, even though it’s later revealed that Gyu-won was the true voice behind the performance. This revelation opens new doors for her, as she is offered a chance to record an album abroad. A conflict emerges as Gyu-won faces the difficult choice between chasing her dreams and staying with Lee Shin, who is secretly enduring a painful wrist injury. Despite his own struggles, Lee Shin hides his pain and pushes Gyu-won to pursue her aspirations, leading to her decision to go to the UK. Meanwhile, Lee Shin undergoes surgery to heal his wrist.
